MICHELIN Tyre Sealant to Launch in Europe
0The MICHELIN Tyre Sealant, developed by Argentinian licensee, Bardahl, in collaboration with the Michelin Technology Centre and MLL will soon be available in Europe. First launched in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay it will be launched during the European spring / summer seasons in a phased approach.
The MICHELIN Tyre Sealant, a one-stop solution, i.e. no separate compressor / inflator, was developed to meet a demanding specification and testing regime. The acceptance criteria was agreed with Michelin Technology Centre and Car Tyre Product Line for a solution which met these criteria and a rigorous testing regime was developed to ensure it would have superior performance and reliability.
Technical aspect of a puncture
If a tyre runs flat, or is partially inflated for a period of time, it can destroy the internal structure. Therefore we can only accept an emergency / temporary solution, and not a permanent repair. At the same time, we will not allow any solution that does not give a minimum tyre pressure of 0.8 bar which is the minimum tyre pressure to allow safe driving at a limited speed of 80km/hr.
The MICHELIN Tyre Sealant is also differentiated
The Michelin Tyre Sealant therefore creates a temporary repair of the puncture to a tyre that has had a nail in it for at up to 400kms before the puncture is discovered, and inflates the tyre to 0.9 bar with no loss of tyre pressure when the car is driven.
Differentiation
The MICHELIN Tyre Sealant is also differentiated in the respect of:
- the product is supplied in a box, so it stands out on the shelf – the box can then be used for disposal.
- It’s sold with an instruction mat to kneel on when using it so the user does not get dirty and can easily see how to use it.
- it’s sold with gloves to avoid dirt from the wheel and tyre on hands and clothes.
- it’s sold in 500ml can, suitable for all tyre sizes up to 245/55 R17 (many competitor products are sold in different sizes depending on tyre size resulting in confusion for consumers and use of wrong size for tyre).
