Award winning Tyre Sealant

Michelin, worldwide leader in tyre technology, announces the launch of MICHELIN Tyre Sealant, an emergency tyre repair product which is quick, easy to use and does not require any tools.

Furthermore, in comparative testing, MICHELIN Tyre Sealant is more likely to effectively repair punctures than the leading competitor products.*

To add to this it was also crowned 2016 “product of the year” in France, (or ELU Produit de L’annee), an independent award voted for by consumers.

This new product is part of the MICHELIN Car Care range and is the only tyre repair product approved by Michelin. It gives motorists peace of mind by not only repairing the puncture but also by re-inflating the tyre to a safe pressure for the motorist to continue their journey until the tyre can be checked over by an expert.

MICHELIN Tyre Sealant is more user-friendly as it comes with protective gloves, a mat to kneel on whilst using it, a box for simple disposal of the used can afterwards and easy-to-follow instructions.

It is supplied in a 500ml can and is suitable for all car tyre sizes up to 245/55 R17. It is ideal for cars with no spare tyre or with a space saver tyre as it enables the motorist to repair the puncture effectively and allows them to be on their way quicker and more safely than changing the wheel in a hazardous location such as on a motorway.

Motorists are able to drive at up to 50mph / 80kmh after using MICHELIN Tyre Sealant and should have the tyre checked over by a professional as soon as possible.

In addition, MICHELIN Tyre Sealant does not leave a thick, sticky residue inside the tyre, but it can simply be washed off with warm water. This makes it more likely that the puncture can be permanently repaired – saving money for the motorist.

Simon Bates, marketing and communications manager for Michelin Lifestyle Europe, said: “We know that many motorists dread getting punctures – especially with the increase in the number of cars with a space saver spare tyre or no spare tyre at all.

MICHELIN Tyre Sealant is extremely effective and incredibly easy to use, so we know there will be really strong consumer demand.

Motorists simply apply the sealant through the valve, confident that the tyre will inflate to a safe level, even if the puncture has been driven on for a considerable distance – it’s a powerful proposition for the customer.

* Based on internal comparative testing of leading competitor, one-step tyre sealant products. A nail (4mm diameter, 50mm long) was used to puncture a 205/55 16 tyre which was then run for 100km, 200km and 400km. At each of these points the nail was removed and the tyre sealant was applied. MICHELIN tyre sealant was the only product effective at sealing the hole and re-inflating the tyre to 0.9 BAR after 400km. The nearest competitor product could only achieve the same results at 200km. Safe driving pressure is deemed to be 0.8 BAR.
