MICHELIN LADIES TAKE ON NEW CHALLENGE – WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM SOLES BY MICHELIN
0SiCANE63 is a team of 3 ladies (Carine Filhon, Simone Merle and Nelly Gonzalez) based in Ladoux who were trained by an ASM coach to compete in “Le Raid des Alyzée” adventure race in Martinique in November.
The Raid des Alizés is a secret course including trail running, mountain biking and canoeing over 3 days, a unique adventure attracting around 75 teams of 3 ladies, who push themselves to their limits to compete against each other and to raise money for their chosen charity, which for Sicane63 was CAMI 63 Sport & Cancer, which offers sports therapies for the well-being of people with cancer.
Following an analysis of each lady with the ASM coach, the Michelin Lifestyle Technical team chose for them specific shoes to suit their individual needs:
For Carine, the Salewa Lite Train:
A lightweight, supportive and responsive low-cut shoe with a breathable knitted mesh upper and grippy Michelin outsole, for speed hiking and mountain training.
The aggressive lugged outsole ensures perfect traction, so you can move quickly through technical, rugged mountain terrain, whether rapid hiking, trail running or uphill interval training. Its special Outdoor Compound has a sculpted and grooved design, inspired by mountain biking tires, that delivers excellent slope-crossing traction and optimal adaptability, including on soft and uneven terrain.
For Simone, the Mizuno Hayate 5:
A lightweight low-cut shoe for fast-paced trail runners looking for overall performance, grip and protection.
The Michelin outsole provides maximum grip, traction and protection on uphill runs and allows swift movement on technical downhill runs.
This shoe also features XtaRide, a technology which adapts to the surroundings and works in perfect harmony with the body
For Nelly, the Salewa Ultra Train GTX:
A speed hiking and mountain training shoe offering excellent traction and stability for long runs on mountain trails or uphill intervals
The special Michelin rubber compound is combined with grooves and sculptures on the sole for outstanding traction and stability over hard and uneven terrain.
The Gortex lined upper keeps your feet dry, whilst the OrthoLite footbed also wicks away moisture and provides cushioning for cool and dry comfort.
All ladies used the shoes throughout training and for the race itself and reported they made a significant difference to their performance.

Before the race the team managed to find some time in between training to answer a few questions:
Q. Where does the name Sicane 63 come from?
A. It’s the 1st2 letters of our names (Simone, Carine and Nelly) and 63 is the reference number of Le Puy de Dôme department in France where we are proud to come from.
Q. What was your motivation for signing up for Le Raid des Alyzée race?
Simone: I have always done a lot of sports and I have always wanted to live such an adventure but there have always been constraints to manage: time, children, etc.
You must know how to get out of your comfort zone, go after your dreams and give yourself the means, so I proposed to Nelly and Carine to join me on the Raid and luckily they did not hesitate.
Nelly: There were several motivations, to do this new adventure (physical and mental) with two friends, and to discover new challenges
Carine: The sportive challenge represents a unique experience, the engagement amongst our team both in the preparation and the event itself, the female/mother experience to make a personal achievement which sets a good example for my children and that you can have dreams and realise them.
Q. How have the shoes helped you in your training?
Simone: The shoes were recommended to us by our running coach according to our stride and morphology.
The MIZUNO WAVE HAYATE 5 are very light weight. I tested them on several types of surface: hard, dry, stony, even snowy, and they proved suitable for all terrains. The grip is safe, uphill and downhill, you feel immediately at ease and with confidence. I am a complete fan of the design and colours too!
Nelly: The SALEWA ULTRA TRAIN GTX had very good grip on downhill trails and ascending Puy de Dome where I encountered leaves and wet paths aswell as snow and winter conditions. I felt very safe and really appreciated the grip.
Carine: “Nunc est Bibendum” (Le pneu boit l’obstacle) : I really understood what it meant when I was trail racing in the scree and downhill… a real feeling of comfort and confidence. Since I had the SALEWA LITE TRAIN I use them for all outdoor activities. They are nice looking, secure and comfortable.
Q. Would you recommend the shoes to a fellow athlete?
All: Without hesitation, for their quality, safety, because you feel a real difference from simple sneakers and new sensations
