In May, Argentinian licensee, Bardhal, launched the MICHELIN Tyre Sealant in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. It will be sold by well-known retailers such as Norauto, Wal-Mart, Carrefour and Petrobras gas stations with a retail price of 140 pesos.
The launch took place at a Karting Race where the major media players dedicated to the automotive industry were present. The journalists were shown how to use the tyre sealant and were then given the opportunity to puncture a tyre and apply the product to see for themselves how it works. This event was a joint venture with Michelin Argentina to capitalise on their expertise in developing press activities.
As well as the press event, the product will be commented about on industry leading blogs such as; Autoblog.com.ar, conduciendo.com and Cosas de Autos blog. Some short videos will also be created in due course to supplement the launch activities.
The tyre sealant works by dispensing a latex foam and gas into the tyre.
The tyre sealant is a temporary repair supplied in an aerosol can. It re-inflates the tyre to a safe level to allow the car to be driven to the nearest tyre dealer where an expert can implement a permanent solution. Invariably the puncture will happen at a time when the weather is bad or the situation is dangerous so the tyre sealant has been developed to meet this requirement.
The tyre sealant works by dispensing a latex foam and gas into the tyre. The latex foam works to seal the puncture and the gas inflates the tyre. Before driving the car the driver should check that the tyre pressure is at least 0.8 bar, the minimum pressure acceptable; the car should be driven straight to the tyre dealer. The car should not be driven at speeds greater than 80 Kilometres per hour until a permanent solution has been found. One aerosol can covers all tyres sizes up to and including 17 for passenger cars.
In addition to the performance benefits delivered by the product, it also comes in a box with a mat on which the operating instructions are printed and a pair of gloves. These additional elements are designed to improve consumer experience and protect the user and their vehicle from getting dirty.
