Michelin’s sustainable partners
0
Not only are Michelin playing a role in preserving the planet through activities directly relating to tyres, we are also partnering with other brands and businesses who feel as passionately about it as we do.
In the footwear market for example, many brands are adopting eco-credentials as consumer demand them, with research suggesting that 33% of consumers choose a brand based on sustainability alone.
Ecoalf are one such brand who have taken their beliefs to another level by setting up a foundation ‘Upcycling the Oceans’ which aims to clean the oceans of marine waste with the help of the fishing industry and to give a second life to plastic waste by transforming it into top quality yarn to produce garments. 1000 tonnes of marine waste has been collected since the foundation was founded in 2015.
The Ecoalf Johnalf moccasins have been jointly developed with MICHELIN, featuring an upper made from Ecoalf’s ocean yarn and the first sole to re-use rubber otherwise discarded in the sole making process.
The process of incorporating recovered rubber cuts down on the amount of raw materials used, limits waste and improves manufacturing efficiency by not only reducing the number of steps, but also CO2 and water consumption. Together we’ve saved over 14,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions and over 384,000 litres of water.
