MICHELIN Wheel Safe, the security and tyre pressure management system for trucks won the Transport Technology of the Year Award at the National Technology Awards in London in May.
Launched at the IAA Show in Hanover, Germany, in September 2018, MICHELIN Wheel Safe is the worlds first in-motion driver alert system to detect the onset of wheel loss from buses, coaches, trucks, trailers and heavy plant before detachment, a major problem which can result in damage to the vehicle, injury to the driver or other road users and even fatality.
Gary Broadfield, Group Managing Director of Wheely-Safe and the inventor behind the technology, said: In winning this award, the judges recognised that wed taken an entirely fresh approach to tackling wheel loss. Our solution means that, for the first time, a driver will receive an alert the instant a potential wheel loss issue is detected, allowing them to pull over safely.

MICHELIN Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Bike also won the Innovation & Technology Award at the TyreSafe awards ceremony in July.
The TyreSafe awards throw a spotlight on businesses, individuals and products which have made a significant contribution to raising awareness about tyre safety issues which is exactly what the MICHELIN TPMS Bike has done.
Launched into the European market in January 2019 it introduces new levels of safety for riders, for whom tyre condition is critical.
A wireless plug & play retrofit kit which can be fitted in just two minutes with no programming and comes complete with a magnetic display mount, inductive charger and two sensors, replacing the original valve caps.
It is designed to detect a tyre in distress through loss of pressure, fast leakage or an increase in temperature often the sign of an impending blowout The compact LCD display provides a highly visual alert and identifies the wheel affected.
The fully sealed and buttonless device can also be easily removed for security when parking unattended and is small enough to fit in a pocket.
