In order to improve efficiency and support business growth, Michelin Lifestyle has restructured its European and Central teams.

The Eastern and Western European teams merged to form one team based in Karlsruhe, Germany at the end of 2016. The new team, as below, will all report to Helmut Boneberg, whilst Helmut will report to the Managing Director of MLL, Christian Delhaye.

  • European Regional Manager – Helmut Boneberg
  • Key Account Managers – Roland Thomasberger, Simon Bates and Christian Benz
  • Marketing & Communications Manager – Anke Fischer
  • Product Development Manager – Remy Ziffel

In the Central Management team based in Stoke-on-Trent in the UK, two new posts have been created:

  • Quality, Risk and Product Approval Manager – responsible for guaranteeing the quality of MLL processes, products and granting final approval for sale

Goetz Lull assumed this position from January 2017

  • Contracts and Strategic Development Manager – responsible for managing processes relating to contract management, business planning and business administration

Gill Addy will assume this position from April 2017

Trevor Haines and Mary Davies who have previously covered these new roles will both retire in 2017; Trevor at the end of March and Mary at the end of June.

In the meantime, meet some of the new team:

CHRISTIAN BENZ – Key Account Manager, Europe

What is your career history?

I joined MICHELIN in October of 1998 and spent most of my life in the agricultural tyre business as Technical Sales Representative, Marketing Manager, Regional Sales Manager and OE2 Manager.

I then moved to MICHELIN Restaurants and was responsible for product marketing for the German website.

What does your current role entail?

Making sure we have contracts with our partners and that they are respected. Following the licensee’s business plans and working closely with them on corrective actions if necessary. Preparing negotiations for potential new licensees.

I am also nominated Mr. Snow chain – which means I work closely with the head of Vehicle Accessories on everything connected with that product category.

What are your key priorities for 2017?

To develop an in-depth knowledge of my licensees and to understand their business, as well as the role that MICHELIN plays within it. Furthermore to find out as much as possible about snow chains.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s early to say what I enjoy most but I think it will never get boring because there are so many different things to ‘manage’.

What is the biggest challenge?

One big challenge is to be close to the licensees and to understand their needs but to keep in mind that those needs do not necessarily have to be identical with our own needs.

What do you like to do out of work?

I love spending time with my wife, no matter what we do. We love cruising around with our Vespa or Cabriolet and we love cooking or going out for dinner with our friends and family.

SIMON BATES – Key Account Manager, Europe

What is your career history?

I recently moved into the role of Brand Licensing Manager for Northern Europe Zone which includes the UK, Nordics, Eire, Poland and Russia.

I have worked at Michelin for 9 years, starting off as a Regional Account Manager for the Truck product line and then moving onto MLL in 2012 as European Marketing Manager.

What does your current role entail?

Managing a group of Licensees to maximise their Michelin business by developing new products, increasing the number and type of stores where they are sold, facilitating collaboration and synergies between Licensees and working with the Michelin LPs on joint opportunities to grow sales of products.

What are your key priorities for 2017?

Growth Growth Growth! There are lots of opportunities in my Zone to grow our business with existing or new Licensees and products. Also, I want to work more closely with the TC teams where we have common customers, to grow the MICHELIN business on both tyres and Vehicle Accessories

What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s never a normal 9 to 5! I like the breadth of the role in that one day it’s car cleaning products and the next day it’s high-tech footwear. Also, I’m lucky enough to be in a great team of people I really like working with.

What is the biggest challenge?

Working across different time zones with diverse cultures and languages is an interesting challenge.

What do you like to do out of work?

I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, gardening, walking our dogs and watching Norwich City Football Club (which often is more stressful and challenging than work)

GOETZ LULL – Quality, Risk and Product Approval Manager

What is your career history?

I have been working for Michelin for over 27 years and almost always in the Quality metier. Starting in Industry as Quality manager for the Bamberg plant in Germany and then the Port-Harcourt plant in Nigeria I continued my career in Greenville as assistant to the Quality Director for the North American passenger and light truck division. Following this experience I went back to Clermont-Ferrand to be in charge of Quality for the passenger car and light truck original equipment entity TCO. Finally in 2012 I joined DGAQ with the mission to introduce quality approaches in the marketing and sales domain working together with the central marketing and sales organisation. Throughout this mission I have had regular contacts with MLL which turns out now as very helpful for my new function here in Stoke.

What does your current role entail?

I will be in charge of plant and product approvals for brand licencing as well as for Quality.

What are your key priorities for 2017?

To take over and push forward the initiatives of my predecessors ensuring that our customers are satisfied and to achieve the targets of MLL’s business within the MLL team.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The diversity of the very international MLL team and to have the opportunity within this team to enhance consumer’s experience with the Michelin Brand.

What is the biggest challenge?

Having just come into MLL I would say a challenge is to translate my former experiences in the quality metier into a brand licensing business model. But really, life, whether professional or personal is naturally charged with challenges – fortunately this is the fuel for progress.

What do you like to do out of work?

Being together and going places with my family and friends whenever possible.
